Planning and Development will report in December 2008 if the legalisation
and establishment of casinos will be beneficial to Taiwan. Priority will
most likely be given to the outlying islands however the northern counties
of Miaoli and Taipei are also actively seeking permission to operate casinos.
If allowed, licenses are
proposed to have a lifespan of 20 years. Taxation of profits will be at
40% and overseas ownership capped at 60%.
